Marcelo Bielsa praised for controversial Leeds United actions against Aston Villa

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has been praised for his sportsmanship during the Sky Bet Championship game between Leeds United and Aston Villa at Elland Road.

Matheusz Klich gave the hosts the lead at Elland Road through controversial circumstances as Villa had a man down and believed the Whites were going to put the ball out of play to allow for treatment.

That was not the case though and sparked an unbelievable few minutes, where Anwar El Ghazi was sent off for the visitors before Marcelo Bielsa ordered his side to allow Villa to score an equaliser - which Albert Adomah did as he tapped home into an empty net.

Former Aston Villa favourite Lee Hendrie was full pf praise for the Leeds boss after his actions.

Marcelo Bielsa explains what he told Leeds United players after 'giving' goal to Aston Villa

He said: "You really do have to give a lot of credit to Marcelo Bielsa. I have to take my hat off to him.

"You look at the situation Leeds are in with no win the last few games. Villa were down to ten men and they could have gone and won that game. You have to give them a lot of credit."

Hendrie also commented on how Dean Smith reacted to the incident with a touchline dispute resulting in Bielsa informing his team to allow the goal.

Marcelo Bielsa discusses Pontus Jansson's attempts to stop the Villa goal

He added: "Dean has gone over and engaged Bielsa and they’ve had a chat between them. It was the right thing to do in my eyes.

"The two situations, the foul in the corner, Villa were on the attack. Hence the other side when Leeds were on the attack. It should have been an easy walk in goal, we’ve seen Janssen doing what he wants to do. That’s our winning mentality as a player.

"Personally, I think it’s worked out well. It was a fantastic game of football. It’s two very good sides there."
