Marcelo Bielsa outlines how Mateusz Bogusz has forced his way into Leeds United's first-team picture

Mateusz Bogusz is set to make his full Leeds United debut against Salford City on Tuesday evening, with Marcelo Bielsa revealing that the Polish teenager has taken advantage of opportunities he was handed in pre-season.

Bielsa is set to make a host of changes for the trip to the League Two newcomers for the Carabo Cup first round tie, with 17-year-old midfielder Bogusz in line to appear.

"Mateusz Bogusz will be inside the group," Bielsa told the press.

"He has shown his skills. Now he is very close to the team that is playing the games at the weekend but he has to develop a lot of things yet.

"Because one thing is to have capabilities to deserve to be in the first XI. And another thing is to play and show these capabilities you have.

"He has the capabilities, the skills, he didn't have opportunities enough to show it, but he took advantage of the minutes that he had in the games."

Bogusz signed for Leeds in January 2019 and was a member of the 16-man squad that travelled to Australia in the summer, featuring in both friendly games the club played Down Under.

After appearing off the bench against Manchester United he started the 2-1 win over Western Sydney Wanderers, nettting Leeds' opener with a spectacular strike from outside the box. He also netted against Guiseley at Nethermoor Park prior to the tour of Australia.

Bogusz, who played in this summer's under-20s World Cup in his native Poland, was part of Carlos Coberan's title-winning under-23s last season and won a place on the first-team bench at the end of the campaign.
