Marcelo Bielsa on how Tyler Roberts' 'big character' can change the dynamic of Leeds United's attack

Marcelo Bielsa has praised Tyler Roberts' positive mentality after a number of impressive performances from the Wales international coming off the bench in recent matches.

Roberts missed the first six weeks of the season through injury but has come off the bench in each of Leeds United's last five matches, putting in a series of impressive displays.

With Bielsa opting to run with a settled starting XI, the 20-year-old will know he will likely have to bide his time before being handed a starting place, but the Whites head coach's effusive comments regarding Roberts' attacking attributes show just how highly regarded he is.

"Tyler is a player who likes being with the ball," Bielsa said in his pre-Sheffield Wednesday press conference on Thursday. "He is a player who has a big character because he wants the ball.

"He always receives the ball in one place where it’s more probable that he’ll lose the ball than keep it.

"Most of the teams of the Championship, in front of the opponent's box you have more than four players. Two centre-backs, two or three midfielders. So the player who asks for the ball there, he is probably going to lose it.

"So to ask for the ball there you have to have talent and character. Personality.

"And to give continuity to this offensive play, this is necessary to receive the ball in this place and give the last pass."

Leeds visit Hillsborough on Saturday lunchtime for a Yorkshire derby that puts the second-placed Whites against an Owls side sitting one place behind them in the table.
