Marcelo Bielsa offers Chelsea fans view as Leeds United suffer Robin Koch injury blow

Here is your Leeds United digest for Sunday, December 6.

Whites hit with Koch injury blow

Leeds were handed a fresh blow in defence when Robin Koch limped off injured after just nine minutes in their game against Chelsea.

The centre-back started against the Blues but struggled in the opening exchanges before going down and clutching his knee.

It came after the German was not featured in a training video put out by the Whites on Friday amid speculation he was suffering from an undisclosed injury.

Koch's injury meant Diego Llorente, who has only just returned to fitness himself after a groin injury kept him out for two months, was called upon for his Leeds debut.

What did Bielsa say about Lampard in his Press Conference?

Bielsa on Chelsea fans

Marcelo Bielsa has played down the impact Chelsea fans had on their side's 3-1 victory over Leeds United.

The Leeds boss had been critical of a plan that allows 10 Premier League clubs to welcome fans back to matches, courtesy of being in a tier two area, whilst the remaining 10 remain behind closed doors due to being in tier three.

Chelsea fans took a particular dislike to Llorente, jeering him throughout the second half.

Yet, speaking post-match, Bielsa said the fans' presence had little impact on his side's performance.

He said: "I don’t think they influenced it."

Augustin dropped due to fitness concerns

Former Leeds United striker Jean-Kevin Augustin has been dropped by Nantes due to fitness issues.

The forward spent the second half of last season on loan at the Whites from RB Leipzig but managed just three appearances due to injuries and fitness concerns as he struggled to impress under Marcelo Bielsa's intensive methods.

Leeds had an obligation to buy Augustin if they were promoted to the Premier League but they argued that, due to the coronavirus shutdown meaning the loan technically expired before the season finished, the clause was null and void.

It prompted a legal battle with RB Leipzig, who no longer considered the French attacker their player, and he was eventually signed on a free transfer by Nantes.

After just three appearances, manager Christian Gourcuff has now revealed Augustin needs to undergo a fitness regime due to missing pre-season.

Gourcuff said: "We have now left him out of team training so that he can reach an acceptable level of fitness.

"He is following an individual fitness regime this week with fitness coach Cyrille Moine and that will still be the case next week.

"We integrated him, but we saw that he was not at a sufficient level.

"His lack of pre-season has penalised him so much that he can not be competitive."
