Marcelo Bielsa nominated for Premier League award following Leeds United unbeaten streak

Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion, Newcastle United and Manchester United have each seen their respective managers commended for their performances in the Premier League throughout the month of April.

Marcelo Bielsa, Sam Allardyce, Steve Bruce and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have all been nominated for the Premier League's Manager of the Month prize after the quartet oversaw a bounty of positive results.

Leeds United went unbeaten across four games, winning their opening two fixtures against Sheffield United and Manchester City.

Following the back-to-back victories, the Whites snatched a late equaliser from Liverpool's grasp at Elland Road, before holding Manchester United to a stalemate.

Leeds' final game before the defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend coincided with the team's best run in the Premier League since March 2002 - matching a six-game unbeaten stretch achieved 19 years ago.

As a result, Marcelo Bielsa has been nominated for Premier League Manager of the Month, for the first time since working in England.

A brief assessment of Bielsa's competitors suggests the Argentine has a reasonable chance of winning the prize.

Steve Bruce's Newcastle won twice and drew twice throughout April, an identical record to Leeds, however the Whites' victory over Manchester City is likely to hold greater significance than the Toon Army's results over Burnley and West Ham United.

Manchester United beat Brighton, Spurs and Burnley, but were held by Leeds during April, while West Brom under Sam Allardyce beat Chelsea and Southampton emphatically, before losing to Leicester and drawing with Aston Villa.

Bielsa is not one to place too much relevance on individual accolades, therefore the nomination will be a mere footnote to his daily business.

Atop his agenda will be focusing on the task to come with Tottenham's arrival at Elland Road imminent ahead of Saturday's lunchtime kick-off.
