Marcelo Bielsa makes surprise claim about Jack Clarke's loan spell amid talk of Tottenham recall

Marcelo Bielsa has been talking about Jack Clarke's loan spell at Leeds United.

The winger who became Tottenham Hotspur's first signing since the 2018 January transfer window when he joined from the Whites in the summer was loaned back to the Championship outfit in order to continue his development.

However, he has found first-team opportunities hard to come by so far this season.

Restricted to just two appearances in the Carabao Cup, the loan rules in the Championship means Clarke is yet to get a look in.

And that's angered some Spurs fans who are growing increasingly worried about the teenager's lack of game time.

football.london have previously reported that Tottenham do have a recall option to bring back Clarke in January if they believe the loan spell isn't working out for the youngster.

And the topic of a return to Spurs was raised during Bielsa's press conference on Thursday where he had a response which might surprise some supporters.

"Always the source of the news is the most important," the Argentine said. "After, when you have a team of 20 players, you give a lot of opportunity to each of those 20 players.

"I am really satisfied with Jack Clarke’s development, he’s at a good fitness level. Technically he is complete and his attitude today is very good.

"He competes with Costa, Hernandez, Harrison. If one of them are left in the team and Clarke is participating after we were going to listen that the news about Costa, Hernandez, Harrison.

"I am satisfied working with Clarke and I am sure he’s going to be necessary and important for us in relation about the news you were talking about.

"The only way to answer to this news is if Clarke who is saying that or some authority of Tottenham."

Clarke did serve a reminder to Bielsa during the recent international break.

Featuring for England Under-20s, Clarke scored a 93rd-minute goal to grab the victory against Switzerland.

Leeds are back in action on Saturday when they welcome Derby County to Elland Road - at the same time when Spurs kick-off against Leicester City in the Premier League - and it remains to be seen if Clarke gets a call-up.
