Marcelo Bielsa makes a surprising revelation on how Leeds United fans' opinions impact his tactics

Noise from journalists and supporters on Leeds United team selection is not a distraction for head coach Marcelo Bielsa, he welcomes it and uses their opinions.

Since football was invented observations, criticism and praise has been directed at managers for the line-up they select week by week.

Calls for Eddie Nketiah to start, for Jack Harrison to be axed and Pablo Hernandez to be moved inside are just three of the trends we have seen from fans already this term.

However, far from a nuisance or distraction, Bielsa, ever the man of the people and his own biggest critic, soaks it all up and uses these outside voices to form his own opinions.

Stopping short of saying he uses fan opinion to pick his teams, Bielsa said the decisions must always be made with his own mind to have courage in his convictions.

Fans, though, will be intrigued to know how much faith Bielsa puts in their view from the terraces.

Asked how he blocked out the noise from outside the club, Bielsa said: “I don’t ignore it. I listen to it.

“I am very curious about the opinions around the decisions I take because sometimes there are some opinions which help us.

“There is an obligation managers are forced to do what they think because their job is to combine one group of footballers.

“It couldn’t be possible to be influenced [in doing this] by taking decisions I don’t believe. I try to listen to all the opinions, but I build my own opinion.”
