Marcelo Bielsa issues Liam Cooper injury update ahead of Wigan clash

Marcelo Bielsa has revealed that Liam Cooper is a major doubt to be fit to face Wigan Athletic on Good Friday.

The Leeds United skipper was withdrawn from the Whites' starting line-up shortly before Saturday's win over Sheffield Wednesday after suffering an injury in the Elland Road warm-up.

Gaetano Berardi stepped up and replaced Cooper for the 1-0 win and Bielsa admitted that the Swiss is set to deputise again.

"It’s very difficult for him to be ready," Bielsa said in his pre-match press conference.

"I cannot say he is definitely out, but his chances are slim. Difficult to create a conclusion.

"Information I give has to be accurate. In this case, it’s not easy to have precision in the answer. I say Cooper is not going to play, but it may not be like this."

Should Cooper not win his fitness battle, Bielsa is likely to name the same starting XI that saw off Steve Bruce's side.

"We want to play with the same team," he continued.

Berardi helped Leeds to keep a clean sheet against the Owls in what was his first start since October, following an injury hit campaign.

Leeds host the struggling Latics at 3pm on Friday, after which time Sheffield United will have played against Nottingham Forest at Bramall Lane.

The Blades currently sit three points behind Bielsa's side going into the Championship's final four games of the season.
