Marcelo Bielsa hit with Liam Cooper injury blow as he names starting XI to face Liverpool

Marcelo Bielsa has been hit by a late injury blow after his skipper Liam Cooper was ruled out of Leeds United's Premier League opener at Liverpool.

The Whites begin their first top flight campaign for 16 years with a clash against the Premier League champions tonight but must make do without their skipper against the Reds' potent forward line.

That means Bielsa hands a debut to new signing Robin Koch, who will partner Pascal Struijk in central defence. Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas will be the full-backs, while Illan Meslier keeps his place in goal.

Kalvin Phillips will operate in his usual role in front of the back-four, with Mateusz Klich and Pablo Hernandez ahead of him in the central positions.

Helder Costa and Jack Harrison will operate on the flanks, while last season's leading scorer Patrick Bamford keeps Leeds' record signing Rodrigo out of the starting line-up for now, as he again leads the attack.

The Spain striker does win a place on the bench, alongside the likes of Kiko Casilla, Oliver Casey, Gjanni Alioski, Ian Poveda, Jamie Shackleton and Tyler Roberts.

Leeds United: Meslier, Ayling, Koch, Struijk, Dallas, Phillips, Klich, Harrison, Hernandez, Costa, Bamford

Subs: Casilla, Casey, Alioski, Poveda, Shackleton, Roberts, Rodrigo
