Marcelo Bielsa handed injury boost ahead of Leeds United's clash against Wigan

Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed that Gaetano Berardi has recovered from injury and will be available to face Wigan Athletic this weekend.

The Swiss defender missed the defeat at Queens Park Rangers and Tuesday's 3-2 comeback win over Millwall with what Bielsa has revealed as a calf injury.

But speaking ahead of this weekend's Elland Road clash, he confirmed Berardi's availability.

"We don’t have new injured players," he said. "Berardi is available, he is recovered."

Barry Douglas has also been missing of late, but Bielsa said he is on the road to recovery.

"Douglas is close to coming back to training," he continued.

Bielsa will have to make do without the suspended Kalvin Phillips against the Latics, while Adam Forshaw is also continuing his recovery from a long-term hip issue.

Leeds head into the weekend two points clear of West Bromwich Albion at the top of the Championship table and four clear of third-placed Nottingham Forest.

Wigan head to Elland Road sitting in the bottom three, having won just once on the road all season.
