Marcelo Bielsa facing major Leeds United decision and fans have no answer either

Leeds United fans are split on whether Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa should pick Daniel James or Jack Harrison for this Saturday's match against Southampton.

Leeds's new £25m signing James has been drawing plaudits after scoring the equaliser for Wales in their World Cup qualifier against Czech Republic. Indeed, Bielsa was already impressed by his performances at Leeds, describing him as a ‘special contributor’ for the team.

When Leeds beat Watford it seemed like Bielsa had favoured James over Harrison, who didn't make the starting line-up, though Bielsa then said Harrison had an injury, and he was only on the bench in case of an emergency.

What is clear is that there is now great competition for places in the wide attacking roles, especially with Raphinha becoming a fully fledged Brazil international. While it is a good headache to have, Bielsa may also have a hard time keeping everyone happy.

Leeds fans have been able to offer no guidance on social media, where they are completely split on whether to play James or Harrison. Each has their champions, while others believe both should play along with Raphinha when he’s back and ready after international duty.

Mike Liley wrote on Facebook: “On current form it would be James for me. Competition is healthy so players need to perform.”

Angela McPartlan agreed: “Dan James, he has the momentum.”

John Shaw disagreed though: “Harrison just pips it for me at the moment. Once Kames is up to speed with things it’s evens but I’d play both if Raphinha isn’t available.”

Paul Toulson felt the same: “James needs to prove himself first.”

Quite a few supporters thought there was room for all three, with Howard White saying: “Definitely both with Raphinha in a number 10 role.”

Calvin White agreed: “Both. James on left, Raphinha on right, Haradona number 10.”

As did Gary Blower: “Harrison on the left. James on the right. Raphinha in the 10 role. Rodrigo up top.”

Sidharth Shaji Nair had his doubts though: “I don’t think Bielsa is going to change the system for now… Raphinha will play on the wing and I think Harrison will get the nod ahead of James on the other wing.”

There was further pragmatism from Paul Stanton, who commented: “Harrison has better footwork and final ball. James has better pace. All depends who the opposition is for me.”

While Brendan Sarginson offered a no-nonsense solution: “The last man to wear the shirt and puts in a good shift should start.”

Bielsa has until Saturday’s match against Southampton to make his own mind up.
