Leeds United chief Marcelo Bielsa has explained his thinking behind his decision to name Polish midfielder Mateusz Bogusz amongst the substitutes for the Whites' dramatic 1-0 victory over Swansea City on Sunday at the Liberty Stadium.
After a superb 5-0 win over Stoke City in midweek, Bielsa opted to name the exact same starting line-up for the clash in South Wales, but there was space for Bogusz on the bench.
It was the 18-year-old's first inclusion in a match-day squad since back in November, when the central-midfielder played the role as an unused substitute in Leeds' 2-1 win over QPR at Elland Road.
The Poland Under-21 international has only ever made one appearance for the Whites, starting the Carabao Cup defeat to Stoke City back in August.
Even though he wasn't called upon during the contest at the Liberty Stadium, it will have been a huge boost to Bogusz's confidence to have finally got back into the match-day squad after so long away from the first-team.
And Bielsa has now lifted the lid on why he made the decision to include the Poland Under-21 international in his match-day squad of 20 against Steve Cooper's side.
"He is growing in training. He's an offensive playmaker," said Bielsa. "I thought he would be an option for today's match.
He is more offensive than [Jamie] Shackleton and [Robbie] Gotts. For this reason, I considered him in case we needed him in the match."
Since joining Leeds in January 2018, the 18-year-old has gone from strength to strength for the Under-23s, becoming a key part of Carlos Corberan's side.
However, having now been able to get amongst the first-team squad once again he will be setting himself the challenge of staying there.
