Marcelo Bielsa explains Kiko Casilla's absence from Leeds United's squad to face Fulham

Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed that Kiko Casilla was absent from Leeds United's squad to face Fulham due to injury.

The Whites claimed their first win of the season, this time coming out of a seven-goal thriller on the right side.

A Helder Costa brace, plus strikes from Mateusz Klich and Patrick Bamford ensured that Leeds secured a first Premier League win since 2004 in their first top flight match back at Elland Road.

While Bielsa was able to welcome skipper Liam Cooper back to the side, goalkeeper Kiko Casilla was absent from the matchday squad.

The Spanish stopper played in Wednesday night's Carabao Cup exit to Hull City, with the decision to award him the captaincy causing debate among fans.

Following the win over the Cottagers, Bielsa confirmed that it was injury that kept the former Real Madrid man out of the matchday squad.

"He got injured on Wednesday," Bielsa said. "He played a pass to Alioski, he played it back to him and when he went to clear the ball the opposition came from behind and tried to stop him. Kiko didn't see him and when he went to kick the ball he picked up a knock in his ankle."

Teenage Italian Elia Caprile replaced Casilla on the bench.
