Marcelo Bielsa discusses loan plans for highly-rated Leeds United U23s duo

With the January transfer window just around the corner, Marcelo Bielsa was asked about the potential of some of Leeds United's promising young players heading out on loan.

The two singled out were striker Ryan Edmonson and central midfielder Alfie McCalmont.

Bielsa admitted that a decision about who might go out on loan is "a decision we have to take in January" he said during his pre-Hull City press conference.

He added: "Always, we are going to do the best thing for the development of each player.

"I know why you have chosen Alfie and Ryan because there are a lot of players like them who deserve a question like that for them."

McCalmont is seen as a natural replacement for Kalvin Phillips but the Northern Ireland international couldn't find space on the bench even during Phillips' absence for Saturday's match against Huddersfield.

McCalmont has been limited to two appearances in the EFL Cup this season while Edmonson is yet to chalk up a single first team appearance during the 2019/20 campaign.

Both have been key players for Leeds' under-23s side this term, with McCalmont laying on an assist for Mateusz Bogusz in Monday's 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

The transfer window opens on January 1. You can follow all the latest transfer news on LeedsLive.
