Marcelo Bielsa delivers his judgement on Ian Poveda as Ivan Toney transfer recommendation made

Here is your Leeds United morning digest for Wednesday, March 24.

Poveda verdict

Marcelo Bielsa said Ian Poveda showed he is an 'agile' player after the January signing finally made his Leeds United debut at the weekend.

Former Manchester City winger Poveda came off the bench for the final 13 minutes against Cardiff City, shortly after the Whites had fallen 2-0 behind.

While the 20-year-old was unable to influence the final result as Leeds slumped to their first defeat in seven matches, he was able to give a glimpse of what he can offer Bielsa's side in their remaining game of the Championship season.

Toney recommendation

Former Leeds United boss Steve Evans believes that his former striker Ivan Toney has the ability to lead the line at Elland Road.

Evans managed the Peterborough forward when he was in charge at London Road last season and saw him bag 23 goals - a total he surpassed this season when he found the net 26 times.

Posh narrowly missed out on a place in the League One playoffs after a point-per-game method was used and chairman Darragh MacAnthony has admitted that the former Newcastle man would be allowed to move, if the club received the right offer.

That has led to Leeds' promotion rivals West Brom being linked, but Evans has named-checked Leeds United when talking about the kind of teams the 24-year-old would succeed in.

Fulham predictor

Leeds United's return to action did not go as planned on Sunday afternoon.

A 106-day wait between fixtures ended with a 2-0 defeat away to Cardiff City for Marcelo Bielsa's men, as fans were reminded that the Championship run-in will present many twists and turns over the coming weeks.

Leeds had spent the three-month layoff sitting pretty at the top of the table with nine games remaining, but their defeat in south Wales, coupled with West Brom claiming a point in their West Midlands derby against Birmingham City has seen the Whites knocked off top spot.

Fulham's defeat to Brentford means that Leeds are no worse off when it comes to the gap to third, as they still enjoy a seven-point buffer ahead of Scott Parker's men.

And fans can predict the outcome of Saturday’s game here.
