Marcelo Bielsa admits there is ‘no justification’ as Leeds suffer their heaviest defeat of Premier League era

Marcelo Bielsa had no excuses to make as he insisted Man City played exactly how he expected in Leeds’ painful 7-0 defeat the Etihad.

It’s Leeds’ heaviest defeat of the Premier League era and while they are five points clear of the relegation zone, Burnley in 18th have two games in hand.

Having been unlucky to lose at Stamford Bridge in their last match, Leeds would have hoped to cause Pep Guardiola’s side some problems. But they were 3-0 after half an hour and by the time the full-time whistle was blown, Illan Meslier had been beaten seven times.

Bielsa accepted that that was not a single aspect of his side’s performance that went well against City, but he was adamant that was not down to his team being surprised with what they faced.

“There is nothing positive to take away from our performance. I can’t find anything that can be valued,” Bielsa said.

“As is natural in these cases, it is not the individuals that fail but the organisation.

“There is no justification I can offer, the game was exactly how we thought it was going to be.

“We prepared ourselves to avoid everything that happened, and we didn’t manage to get anything.”
