Marcelo Bielsa addresses Patrick Bamford situation as goalless streak goes on

Marcelo Bielsa has defended Patrick Bamford after his latest goalless game for Leeds United.

The Whites beat Reading 1-0 at Elland Road to extend their lead in the automatic promotion places to five points, but Bamford drew some criticism for his individual display.

The striker has 12 league goals for Leeds this season, but he's now failed to score in 10 of his last 11 appearances, a period United have otherwise struggled for goals.

Since the turn of the year, Leeds have failed to find the back of the net in defeats to Arsenal, Sheffield Wednesday, Queens Park Rangers, Wigan Athletic and Nottingham Forest, with Bamford leading the line in each one.

And while they're back in good form with back-to-back 1-0 wins over Bristol City and Reading, there was the same profligacy in converting chances, which could have cost Leeds as the opposition had late chances to cancel out United's slender lead in both matches.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, the Leeds boss sounded satisfied with Bamford's contributions, pointing out he plays an important role in team's dominant, front-foot style.

"We had a lot of players in good condition to score," answered Bielsa when asked if he's happy with the impact Bamford's making at present.

"All our offensive players were in good condition to score today. [Mateusz] Klich, Helder [Costa], Pablo [Hernandez] and [Ezgjan] Alioski all had chances to score.

"The way we attack left those players in good condition to finish those chances, but especially to Patrick."
