Marcel Brands signs new long-term Everton contract

Everton have confirmed Marcel Brands has signed a new contract as director of football.

The Dutchman was due to be out of contract at the end of next month but has put pen to paper on fresh terms.

Brands, who was appointed in May 2018, has been handed a new three-year-deal which takes him to the end of the 2024 season.

Carlo Ancelotti has given his backing to Brands on a number of occasions recently, speaking of their close working relationship, and in mid-February revealed that talks were progressing well with the director of football over a new deal.

Brands was appointed to Everton's board of directors in January 2019 having replaced Steve Walsh, the club's first ever director of football, in the summer before.

Brands, who is now working on Everton's transfer plans for the summer, has overseen major changes to the club's scouting and recruitment department as well as to the Blues' Academy.
