Marcel Brands on Alex Iwobi and the new dimension he can bring to Everton

Everton's director of football Marcel Brands has spoken about the reasons behind signing Alex Iwobi.

The Arsenal forward was brought in for £28million on deadline day earlier this month.

Iwobi joined at the end of a busy summer for the Blues, which also saw them recruit Moise Kean, Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Fabian Delph, Djibril Sidibe, Andre Gomes and Jonas Lossl.

And Brands says he is expecting goals and assists from Iwobi - as well as competition for a key position.

The Dutchman said: "[Signing Iwobi] was not an easy one, a young boy that played already a lot of games in the Premier League, Champions League and Europa League.

"But in our eyes, a boy that can play in different positions. Play from the side, also behind the striker.

"In our team we don't have much competition with Gylfi [Sigurdsson]. So I think we have managed it now with Alex.

"He's 23-years-old, already quite experienced and the most important thing: he has goals and assists in his game."

Brands' interview was featured on the latest Alan Myers podcast, and you can listen in full here.
