Marcel Brands highlights important quality he's looking for from Everton's summer transfers

Marcel Brands has highlighted the important quality he wants to see from Everton's new signings this summer.

The Blues have already confirmed the arrivals of Jonas Lossl and Andre Gomes as Marco Silva prepares his squad for the upcoming 2019/20 Premier League season.

There is still a lot of work to be done this summer, however, with more quality players needed and a number of stars on their way out of Goodison Park to help clear the club's wage bill.

And Everton's director of football, speaking after the arrival of Gomes, knows how crucial it is for new transfers to strike up a strong relationship with the fans from an early stage.

Brands told evertontv: "Players have to feel at home here and that's so important.

"I had the feeling he [Gomes] was a big example as are other players like Mina, Digne who also immediately at the beginning feel at home.

"It helps me a lot if the fans show that kind of appreciation to player. At the end, of course money is one thing, but you also want to be appreciated.

"I think that helps a lot. I think the fans are happy, but I'm also happy that they support me and this deal."

Gomes settled into Everton instantly after making his loan move from Barcelona last term, not just on the pitch but off it too.

The Portuguese international got involved with a number of projects in the community and opened himself up to his new supporters, and Brands thinks that is an important aspect for every new Blues player to pick up.

He added: "There's a lot of people working behind-the-scenes to let players feel comfortable and let them be part of the Everton family and community.

"I think it's also important with Denise as CEO to support that, and I think she's a big example for how Everton should be in our community.

"From day one we've tried to manage that with the new players, you always need the players in that.

"I think everyone remembers when Andre gave a scarf to the young lad. I think then you steal the hearts of the people.

"It's important the players give their hearts as well."
