Marc McNulty and John Souttar named among Scotland substitutes for Kazakhstan game

John Souttar and Marc McNulty will both start on the bench for Scotland’s opening Euro 2020 qualifier in Kazakhstan.

The Scots kick-off the group stage aspect of the qualifying process, knowing that their UEFA Nations League performance has guaranteed them a crack at the play-offs no matter what.

Souttar made his return to the squad after suffering a hip injury on his last appearance in the defeat away to Israel, which ruled him out for the following few months.

McNulty earned his first call up last week after netting seven times in nine appearances since joining Hibs on loan from Reading.

The Hearts defender not starting ahead of Hamburg’s David Bates would perhaps be seen as a surprise in some quarters, while McNulty was unlikely to be thrown in from the start ahead of Oli Burke or Oli McBurnie.

Former Hibs hero John McGinn starts in midfield, while ex-Hearts goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin takes his place on the bench alongside Souttar.
