Marc Guehi: Crystal Palace captain issues update over collapsed Liverpool transfer

Marc Guehi has said his full focus is on Crystal Palace following his collapsed move to Liverpool over the summer.

Guehi had been set to join Liverpool on Deadline Day before Palace pulled out of negotiations at the last minute, owing to the fact that they couldn’t sign an adequate replacement.

The Palace captain, whose contract expires next summer, is not expected to sign a new deal at Selhurst Park, but he reaffirmed his commitment to the club ahead of their Conference League opener against Dynamo Kyiv.

“My only focus is the team and the football club. I’m not worried about personal accolades,” Guehi told reporters, stating he had nothing to say about his collapsed move to Liverpool.

“As long as the team is where it needs to be, I’m happy.”

Guehi has started all six of Palace’s Premier League games this season and assisted Eddie Nketiah’s 97th-minute winner against Liverpool, which extended the Eagles’ unbeaten run in all competitions to 18 games.

It’s been an impressive start to the new campaign for Palace, but Guehi admits that while ambitious, they are staying humble as they approach their first-ever major European fixture tomorrow night.

“I’m not too sure about whether it’s the best team or not. I really don’t know,” Guehi continued.

“When you’ve tasted success, you are not satisfied, and you want more. Everyone at the football club is striving for more success.

“If we keep our heads down, we’ll get many more opportunities to do even greater things.

“But it’s still early days in the season… like the manager says our feet are on the ground.”
