Marc Gasol, Grizzlies send Pistons to fourth straight loss

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. _ The misery continues.

The Memphis Grizzlies used a 14-0 run late in the third quarter Wednesday night to help send the Detroit Pistons to a 98-86 loss _ the Pistons' fourth straight.

The Pistons (14-17) had no answer for Marc Gasol, who torched the Palace floor for 38 points, five rebounds and four assists on 14-for-17 shooting.

The Grizzlies boast the league's top defense, and held the Pistons to 36.1 percent shooting and 17 turnovers.

The Pistons showed more fight, but it could not prevent their fourth-straight loss by double figures.

Reggie Jackson had 18 points and seven assists and Jon Leuer, who was involved in a minor car accident in the morning, had 18 points and six rebounds off the bench. He was slated to get the first start of his Pistons career before the accident forced him to miss the morning walk-through.

Andre Drummond finished with 13 points and 19 rebounds.

JaMyachal Green scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Grizzlies (19-12). Eleven Grizzlies scored.

The Pistons' slumber over the past few weeks continued until midway through the second quarter.

An Andrew Harrison 3-pointer at the 7:39 mark of the second quarter gave the Grizzlies a 40-22 lead, and a smattering of boos could be heard throughout the Palace.

But Jackson and Leuer fueled a 16-2 run that gave the Palace energy.

Jackson, who left the game in the first quarter because of a sore left knee, scored nine points in the first half and added five assists.

To signify the improved energy, Leuer forced a loose ball near mid-court and the ball was propelled back toward the Pistons' basket.

Jackson chased the ball and slid across the hardwood trying to prevent it from going out of bounds.

The Pistons trailed by six late in the first half, but Gasol was able to draw a foul from Leuer while shooting a 3-pointer with 1.4 seconds left.

He sank all three to give the Grizzlies a 53-44 halftime lead.
