Marc Bircham fails to rule out attending Waterford relegation playoff as a fan

Marc Bircham has not ruled out attending tomorrow’s winner-takes-all promotion-relegation playoff - as a fan!

The Englishman was sensationally sacked as Waterford boss on Tuesday morning after an explosive chain of events.

He maintains that he found out on Twitter about getting the axe.

And that two-line Waterford statement came just half an hour after Bircham’s own tweet in which he revealed he had been suspended for a week.

Bircham has since returned to London but is due back in Ireland to collect his belongings and may hit Richmond Park tomorrow night.

“I might even go if I’m allowed. The good thing is that it’s a neutral venue,” he said today.

And despite his stunning bust-up with Waterford owner Richard Forrest, Bircham is rooting for the players.

“I'd love them to win it,” he said. “The players have done so well for me and the fans and the town deserve it. That's my party stance on that.

“We had six points after 15 games and 18 points from safety. Then we came in and managed to get 42 points after 36 games so the lads have done brilliantly.

“We added four or five players but it’s been a small squad all season and I’m really proud of what we’ve done.

“It’s how we built up the fan base and community after a low spell with the Covid and their team looking like it would get relegated. We united the town.”
