Marc-Andre ter Stegen says he will not leave Barcelona this summer and reveals new contract talks

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has revealed that talks over a new contract at the Catalan club were underway prior to the coronavirus pandemic.

The German joined Barca in the summer of 2014 and has gone on to become one of the best in the world during that time.

His current deal finishes in 2022, but both player and club are keen to extend that agreement in the coming months.

"It's not possible that I'll leave this summer," Ter Stegen told Kicker.

"There were some initial meetings between my agent and the club [regarding a renewal]. Then the virus got in the way and it wasn't the moment to talk about a contract.

"At a time when many people were concerned for their lives, we decided to postpone it."

Ter Stegen and his partner have recently had a baby son and the German said: "I feel good in Barcelona, also because my family feel good."

Barca are two points ahead of Real Madrid in LaLiga with 11 rounds remaining, with all of those fixtures set to be contested in the space of just over five weeks as the competition resumes on June 11.

"We're in a good position," the 28-year-old said. "But Real Madrid won't give us anything."
