'Marathon' Update Patch Removes Slide-Cancel Exploit, Overhauls Pinwheel Loot Zone

"Marathon" has received a new update aimed at fixing movement exploits and improving overall balance. The patch focuses on competitive fairness, particularly by addressing unintended mechanics that gave certain players a clear advantage.

With these changes, Bungie is taking a firm step toward stabilizing gameplay and refining the experience for all players. It's all about laying "fair and square" for every player.

'Marathon' Slide-Cancel Nerf Removes Speed Exploit

Per Bungie's patch notes, one of the biggest highlights of the update is the removal of the slide-canceling exploit. Previously, players could maintain excessive speed by chaining slides with weapon swaps or abilities like the Thief's grapple. This created unpredictable movement patterns that were difficult to counter in combat.

Bungie has now eliminated this mechanic entirely. The developers explained that high mobility should always involve a trade-off, such as cooldowns, resource usage, or increased risk. By removing the exploit, the game now promotes more balanced engagements and consistent pacing across matches.

Pinwheel Zone Rework Enhances Combat and Loot

The update also introduces significant changes to the Pinwheel area. The Destroyed Wing entrance has been reopened, giving players more tactical routes and opportunities for repositioning. Adjustments to security credentials in the Hub make access to locked areas more dynamic.

New bulletproof glass has also been added, increasing combat intensity and forcing players to rethink their positioning during firefights.

At the same time, Bungie has improved loot quality in the zone, turning Pinwheel into a high-risk, high-reward location that encourages aggressive playstyles.

'Marathon' Update Sets Stage For Future Content

While this patch focuses mainly on targeted fixes, it sets the foundation for upcoming updates, Kotaku wrote.

Bungie has confirmed that a larger mid-season balance patch is planned for April, which is expected to bring deeper gameplay adjustments.

Looking ahead, Season 2 will launch in June with new features such as updated loadouts, a redesigned Dire Marsh map, and a new Runner Shell system. The players are here to stay for expansions and more developments for the next few months.
