Marathon Season 1 roadmap: Cryo Archive, Ranked, and events

Much like most live-service games, Marathon follows a seasonal model. With every new season, the world evolves, the theme changes, and the meta shifts. Seasons in Marathon are free and come with new loot, Runner Shells, and features, for a meaningful new start.

The game’s launch is shortly followed by Season 1, so here’s everything coming to Marathon during that time.

Marathon launches on March 5 and comes with a full progression system, all previously revealed Runner Shells, as well as plenty of loot for you to collect.

Here’s what you can expect in Marathon at launch:

  • Three zones (Perimeter, Dire Marsh, and Outpost)
  • Six Runner Shells and Rook
  • Six factions and their upgrade trees
  • 28 guns
  • Cores, Implants, and mods
  • The Codes
  • Contracts

The base game features three zones: Perimeter, Dire Marsh, and Outpost. Outposts becomes available the day after launch and requires you to be level 12. You can explore the zones using one of the seven Shells: Destroyer, Assassin, Recon, Triage, Vandal, Thief, or Rook.

As you explore the zones, you can complete contracts for one of the six factions: CyberAcme, NuCaloric, MIDA, Traxus, Arachne, and Sekiguchi. Each faction has an upgrade tree you can progress through to unlock new gear and earn rewards. These include Cores, Implants, mods, consumables, and more.

In addition to the launch content, Season 1 should launch shortly after. There’s a bit of a window between launch and Season 1 content, giving you enough time to go through the launch content and get some good gear.

Here’s everything coming to Marathon in Season 1:

  • Cryo Archive zone
  • Ranked mode
  • C.A.R.R.I. event
  • New gun
  • New Implants
  • Mid-season tuning patch

The biggest addition to the game in Season 1 is the Cryo Archive map, coming in the second half of March. It’s an endgame map featuring raid-like mechanics, puzzles, and some of the best loot in the game. This is also where you will come across a powerful entity that even UESC is afraid of.

Ranked mode is also coming in the second half of March. More information will be revealed closer to its release, but you can expect a Ranked ladder and exclusive rewards each season. Other additions include a new weapon, new Implants, and the C.A.R.R.I. event.

There’s also a mid-season tuning patch that will balance weapons, Runner Shells, Cores, and Implants. While there’s no specific date for the mid-season patch, you can expect it sometime in mid-April, considering every season lasts around three months.
