Marathon runner receives lifetime ban for cycling part of race

A runner at the Xuzhou International Marathon has received a lifetime ban after cycling part of the race.

The woman was repeatedly told to dismount the bike by race officials but ignored their instructions.

Despite her blatant cheating, the woman still took five hours, 38 minutes and 36 seconds to cross the line.

Her name has since been removed from the records.

“After an official found her and stopped her, the participant again rode [on the bike]. She violated the rules.”

A running boom in China has seen the cases of cheating in races increase exponentially with more than 250 runners caught cheating in the Shenzhen Half Marathon in November.
