Marathon bars return as Snickers turn back time nearly 30 years after name change

Sweet-lovers of generations past have fond memories of Marathon bars before they became known as Snickers .

Today's crop of chocolate fanatics won't have a clue the popular brand used to be known by a different name before 1990.

It was then that manufacturers Mars took the decision to rename the product so it was the same around the world.

But now both old and young can travel back in time as Snickers has announced it is to revert back to being known as Marathon for a limited time.

For three months shoppers can get their hands on four-packs of the Marathon retro edition for just £1.

Brand Director Gemma Buggins told the Daily Star : "Bringing the Marathon bar branding back for a limited time really was a no brainer.

"It’s a great way to celebrate over 85 years of Mars making chocolate in the UK and we hope this serves as a wonderful treat for fans of Snickers who remember when it was called Marathon!"

And it's not the first time nostalgic sweets have made a comeback.

Back in 2017, Cadbury brought their Tiffin bar back to life and Starburst renamed itself Opal Fruits - their previous incarnation - for a while in 2008.
