Maradona: Blessed Dream cast and trailer for Amazon Prime Video drama series

A new sports biopic series tells the extraordinary life of a man Gary Lineker described as “one of the greatest footballers of all time” – Diego Maradona.

Widely regarded to be one of the best players to have ever lived, Maradona played for (among others) Argentinos Juniors, Barcelona, Napoli and Sevilla, as well as making 91 appearances for the Argentinian National Team.

He also went on to manage Argentina, as well as teams like Deportivo Mandiyú, Al-Wasl, Fujairah and Gimnasia de La Plata until his death at the age of 60 in November 2020.

Pep Guardiola paid tribute to him at the time by saying, "He made world football better, his performance what he did in Napoli - a team in the south [of Italy] - and then with Argentina in Mexico 86 was unbelievable. Rest in peace and a big hug for all his family on behalf of Manchester City."

Starting with his humble beginnings, the Amazon Prime Video series shows all the sides of Maradona’s personality, from unbelievable talent to hedonism and addiction.

Who is in the Maradona: Blessed Dream cast?

The biopic takes the unusual step of casting three actors to play Maradona at different periods of his life, with Nazareno Casero, Juan Palomino and Nicolas Goldschmidt all portraying the football legend.

The full cast list includes:

  • Juan Palomino
  • Nazareno Casero
  • Nicolás Goldschmidt
  • Julieta Cardinali
  • Laura Esquivel
  • Mercedes Morán
  • Peter Lanzani
  • Leonardo Sbaraglia
  • Marcelo Mazzarello
  • Pepe Monje

What has the cast said about the film?

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Juan Palomino talked about Maradona and his legacy in his home country, saying, “Argentina is in every breath, in every heartbeat of Madonna.”

“[The series] is a look at the circumstances and context of the time he was living… It was my honour to play someone who actually held truth to power. He was a marathoner who talked about all the economic situations and economic, social and political context of that time he had to live.”

Where to watch Maradona: Blessed Dream

The ten-part Argentinian series Maradona: Blessed Dream is available now (October 29) on Amazon Prime Video.

The Spanish language series is available in an English dubbed version.
