Mar Hall owners 'extremely sorry' after teenagers left in tears over cancelled prom night

The owners of Mar Hall have offered to re-host a school prom after it was cancelled following a power cut.

Clydebank teenagers arriving at the plush venue were left in tears after they were asked to leave the venue and sent on a bus to a church hall.

The owners of the plush Bishopton venue said they were "extremely sorry" after 150 pupils from St Peter the Apostle High School were left gutted when the night was axed.

Suited and booted teenagers arrived only to find out the venue had an ongoing power cut.

Parents received a text from the school just after 8.30pm yesterday telling them that the event at Mar Hall was cancelled.

The kids were driven back to Clydebank where they were given .

Scotland football ace John McGinn praised the efforts and shared one of the school's tweets with the "applause" emoji.

His mum was credited with helping sort out the last-minute change. The school responded to his tweet saying it was "all thanks to his amazing mum".

Bosses have now offered to re-host the school prom at no extra cost.

But parents who had splashed the cash on fancy outfits and makeup were left furious.

Speaking to The Record, one mum said her daughter had been left in tears.

Mum Dianne O’Donohue said: "“I’m absolutely gutted for them.

“I dropped my daughter off at 5.30pm and she was all dressed up looking forward to celebrating her prom and having a nice meal and night with her friends.

“My daughter was crying on the phone to me. There had been no meal, nothing."

“My daughter’s dress was £345, her shoes were £100, her jewellery was £250, she spent £70 at the hairdressers. Plus tan, nails and makeup.

“This was organised months in advance and they were looking forward to it."

A spokeswoman for Mar Hall said: "Prom guests arrived at 6pm and the headteacher was informed on arrival."

"Scottish Power could not guarantee the power would resume before 11pm, and after a discussion with the teachers it was decided that the rest of the prom would be cancelled due to health and safety concerns and a duty of care for our guests.

"We are extremely sorry for what happened but the situation was beyond our control."

"Mar Hall would be delighted to host the event complimentary at a suitable date.

"If a reschedule date is not achievable we would be happy to refund the cost."
