Map shows true extent of Covid cases in Nottingham ahead of tier announcement

This map shows just how the number of new Covid cases has started once again to creep up, ahead of the looming tier announcement.

Nottinghamshire is set to find out what tier it will remain in on December 17, following a review today.

Public health bosses, however, believe it to be unlikely restrictions will be eased from Tier 3 to Tier 2 due to a number of "headwinds" causing concern.

These headwinds are clear to see in the data, released by the Government, which show a rise in the past week.

For example, while the infection rate in the city centre and Trent Bridge area currently stands at 81.5 cases per 100,000 people - below the national average - there has been a 42.9% increase in new cases compared to the week before.

Similarly, Mapperley Park has recorded 25% more cases in the seven days to December 10 (the latest available data).

In the Gedling borough, cases have been rising dramatically in the past week.

Arnold town centre, for example, has recorded 27 new cases in the past seven days to December 10 - a 50% rise on the previous week.

Its infection rate, as a result, is now 443.4 cases per 100,000 people, well above the national average.

Other areas to record an increase in cases after the second national lockdown - which ended on December 2 -include New Basford (205.3 cases per 100,000) Highbury Vale (349.6 cases per 100,000) and Bobbers Mill (378.7 cases per 100,000).

The Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Local Resilience Forum's daily Covid-19 report also shows a clear rise in the past seven days.

Graphs (shown above) show the epidemic curve begin to creep up into December across all areas of the county.

While the number of cases and overall infection rate is significantly lower than the second peak, there has been a rise in the past week.
