Map shows the most 'unhealthy' areas around Nottingham

The most unhealthy and healthy areas around Nottingham have been revealed as part of an interactive map.

The data set, gathered by the Consumer Data Research Centre, takes into account positive factors like access to healthcare, GPs, hospitals, dentists, pharmacies, air quality and leisure.

It also takes into account the negatives: things like access to fast food, off licenses, tobacconists, as well as concentration of chemicals such as nitrogen dioxide and sulphur dioxide - which cause acid rain.

As well as breaking these down into individual categories, the CDRC also gives each area a rating from ‘best’ through 2-9, and into ‘worst'.

Looking at a visual representation of the stats, one thing is obvious - greater Nottinghamshire, much like the rest of the UK, has a serious problem with rural access to healthcare.

These smaller places, poorly linked by public transport and far away from essential services, lacked access to GPs, dentists, hospitals, pharmacies and leisure centres - key parts of the health index.

Smaller villages like Bleasby, Gotham, Ratcliffe on Soar, Bunny and Sutton Bonington were all rated among the worst with all categories considered.

Some of the most healthy areas around greater Nottingham include Radcliffe on Trent, Wollaton, Chilwell and Attenborough and parts of Clifton.

Parts of Bestwood also scored highly for health with all the factors taken into account.

Within Nottingham and the greater city area, the worst areas for health according to the index include the city centre, Bilborough, Bulwell, Aspley, Sherwood and St Ann's.

Arnold and Carlton also have areas which rank low on the index and the same goes for parts of West Bridgford.
