Map of road and footpath closures around St James' Park and alternative pedestrian routes to get to Newcastle matches

Newcastle fans heading to St James' Park for this weekend's home match against Aston Villa may need to change their route to the stadium owing to a number of road closures.

As a result of ongoing highway works, Newcastle City Council has confirmed that Strawberry Lane, between the junctions with Gallowgate and Strawberry Place, will be closed to pedestrians on matchdays until Christmas. The work began last week on October 19.

Supporters making their way to and from the ground in the coming weeks are advised to alter their journeys to avoid Strawberry Lane. Pedestrian access along Strawberry Place will be unaffected.

In addition to the usual matchday road closures around the stadium, as fans leave at the end of the match, Leazes Park Road between Percy Street and the junction with Strawberry Place will also be closed to traffic. Metered parking bays along this road will also be suspended from 5 pm to provide a clearer path.

These measures will continue to be put in place on St James’ Park matchdays until at least Christmas when highways works are expected to be complete.

Strawberry Lane will be closed both to pedestrians and traffic while Leazes Park Road will be closed to cars. If you are walking to St James' Park from Monument the alternative route involves walking further along Gallowgate to the junction opposite the Sandman hotel and then turn right and up the hill to the stadium, or walking up Percy Street turning left up leazes Park Road which joins Strawberry Place at the top of the road.
