Map helps find covid testing sites with the shortest queues today as centres face huge demand

Covid test centres across Merseyside are already very busy today, as people rush to get tested before meeting in their Christmas bubbles tomorrow.

Queues have been spotted outside Liverpool's Town Hall and Wirral's Floral Pavilion.

At the test centres, people can get a lateral flow test which is a new rapid way to detect coronavirus.

It requires people to take a swab up their nose and at the back of the throat - they do this themselves.

Keep up to date with coronavirus cases in your area by adding your postcode below:

The test centres are for symptom-free people only - and people must not travel from outside of Merseyside into the region to get tested.

There's no need to book and those wanting a test should just turn up.

How to find the coronavirus teste centre with the shortest queue closest to you:

A handy interactive map has been made that provides live updates on how busy the queues are at your nearest test centres.

To view the map, visit liverpool.maps.test-and-trace.nhs.uk

Not only does the tool tell you where your nearest centre is and the opening times but it also provides you a rough guide on wait times.

If a centre is not busy it will show up green, that means it has less than a 15 minute wait.

If it's busy it will be orange and have a 15 minute to 45 minute wait.

And it's very busy it will be coloured red and will have a more than 45 minute wait to get your test.

The ECHO are also providing live updates today - here.
