Many in race for post of Bihar Congress president

PATNA: After resignation of Madan Mohan Jha as president of Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC), lobbying for the state chief post has gained pace.

As of now several names are in the race for this post, which include Ranjeet Ranjan, Tariq Anwar, Anand Shankar, Vijay Shankar Dubey, Mohammad Jawed, Meira Kumar and Kanhaiya Kumar.

Even the state in-charge Bhakta Charan Das has shown interest in placing Kutumba MLA, Rajesh Ram at this post. However, a group in the party is against Ram’s nomination.

As per a news agency, Das said the process to form the new committee has begun and BPCC would see change in faces.

“As of now, Jha will continue to serve till the new state president is appointed, or someone is given the charge of a working president. However, the process should be expedited so that the party does not suffer because of the lack of leadership,” said a senior party leader.

After stepping down from the state president post, Jha on Friday said he has got the blessings from the high command and will continue to serve the party.

“Earlier too, I had the blessings of high command. I will serve the party with my heart and soul. As far as a post is concerned, it is not permanent, rather it comes and goes,” Jha told TOI over phone after reaching Patna from New Delhi where he had resigned on Thursday.
