Manuel Pellegrini surprised Celtic didn't push Real Betis all the way as he tells stars to keep Barcelona mentality

Manuel Pellegrini has warned Celtic his Real Betis side will be treating the Parkhead men like Barcelona.

The La Liga outfit landed in Glasgow last night in buoyant mood following their weekend 1-0 win against the Nou Camp giants.

Betis have already bagged their Europa League knockout spot and won five on the spin in Spain and Pellegrini wants to maintain his side’s hot streak.

He said: "It is a mentality that all teams must have regardless of who plays and against whom they play.

“They must have pride and desire to win and it has to be demonstrated in each of the games.

“I hope it will show.”

Pellegrini admitted he’s surprised Thursday night's clash is a dead rubber – as he expected a final day showdown with Celts for a place in the last 32.

The ex-Man City and West Ham boss said: “When we started the group we were thinking about this last game maybe being the final between Celtic and our team to see who continues in the Europa league.

“But we have the fortune and the ability to be ready for the next round.

“So I think it will be a good game against two big teams and not playing with all the tension that normally this game has.

“We are going with the responsibility of finishing the group as well as possible.

“It is always important to win because of dynamics, because of individual performances.”

Celtic pushed Betis all the way in a 4-3 thriller in Spain earlier in the season and Pellegrini doesn’t think there is much between the sides.

He said: “The squad is very aware that winning or losing is two or three balls that are played differently.

"I see the team involved and doing well in the two competitions, I hope I don't see anything different tomorrow or sit on Sunday thinking we have gone backwards.

“We have to repeat what we have been doing and continue like this until the end of the season to see what it gives us.”

Betis are flying high in third spot in La Liga and have ambitions of going deep in the Europa League.

They will be in the draw for the next stage but also have a clash with Real Sociedad on Sunday.

Pellegrini is missing some key men due to injuries but has still brought a strong squad to Scotland.

He said: “We are not waiting for anything in the Europa League. This game remains to be played and we have no preference for any team.

“We are worried about Celtic, about having a good game. When we finish this one, we will do it with Real.

“Later we will see on Monday which team we have in Europe.”
