Manuel Pellegrini's last words as West Ham boss as he is sacked following Leicester defeat

West Ham have acted and Manuel Pellegrini has gone.

The Chilean has been sacked by West Ham following their 2-1 reverse at the hands of title-chasing Leicester City on Saturday.

Pellegrini spent 18 months in east London and guided the club to a 10th place finish in the Premier League last season.

But the team have struggled this year and find themselves just one point and one place above the relegation zone following a 12th defeat in 20 games.

He has been under pressure for some time but his sacking, following the defeat to the Foxes at the London Stadium on Saturday, came out of the blue.

It was an announcement that was unexpected, if not for the reasoning behind it, then for the timing of it.

Pellegrini was asked about his future at the London Stadium during his post-match press conference on Saturday.

Here were his final words as West Ham boss: "I must continue to work and find a way and to recover the trust. I cannot answer that question."

"I cannot answer that question," but it was a question that was swiftly answered by those above him. He left the stadium with a suitcase and he is unlikely to be seen in east London again.
