Manuel Pellegrini reveals the key reason behind West Ham's inconsistency this season

Since the turn of the year, West Ham have picked up just one point away from home in six attempts and Manuel Pellegrini believes there is a good reason for that.

The Hammers haven't won on their travels since a 2-1 victory over Southampton at St Mary's on December 27 when Felipe Anderson inspired a comeback from 1-0 down with a double.

Since then though, the only point they have picked up away from the London Stadium was in a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park back in late February.

Pellegrini's side have lost at Bournemouth, Wolves, Man City, Cardiff and Chelsea in the league this year and were also dumped out of the FA Cup when they travelled to AFC Wimbledon.

The Hammers have been hampered by injuries all season long. Carlos Sanchez, Samir Nasri, Andy Carroll, Winston Reid, Andriy Yarmolenko, Manuel Lanzini and Jack Wilshere have just 22 Premier League starts between them in 2018/19.

The manager believes that having what he claims is an average of six injuries for every game in 2019 is the main reason why his side have struggled massively with inconsistency.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United, the boss said: "For me, the most important reason is that the amount of players we haven't been able to use during the season.

"We have had six or seven players that are maybe feeling the amount of games they have played so far. I repeat, it is not a bad season.

"With a complete squad, I am sure that we are going to grow a big step.

"We have had an average of six players injured for every game this season, most of the players arrived here in the summer, they couldn't play most part of it."
