Manuel Pellegrini gives honest verdict on West Ham's hopes of finishing in the top four

Manuel Pellegrini has played down any chance of West Ham mounting a push for a top four finish.

The Hammers have had an outstanding start to the season after picking up 12 points from their opening seven fixtures.

This has put the east London side into fifth position in the league; just two goals shy of being in the Champions League places.

While the season is still in its infancy, Pellegrini says he's keen to take things slowly as there's a long way to go.

Speaking ahead of the clash with Crystal Palace, he said: "I don't think this is the moment to make conclusions about other teams.

We have another 30 games to play, which is a lot of points.

"We must concentrate and try to keep playing in the way we're playing now."

Of course the challenge will be much bigger with the news of Lukasz Fabianski's injury.

The goalkeeper was taken off during the Premier League clash with Bournemouth with a hip injury, with the stopper being examined through the week.

But delivering an update, Pellegrini said: "About Lukasz, the medical staff will decide today or tomorrow if he will have surgery or if he will recover without surgery.

"Either way, it will be less than three months he is out.

"For the moment, we have Roberto as goalkeeper and I trust a lot in him. I am confident he will have good performance. We also have David Martin, who has good experience."
