Manuel Pellegrini confirms Declan Rice's transfer stance amid Manchester United and Man City links

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini insists midfielder Declan Rice is not thinking about money as speculation continues to link him with a move out of the club.

Both Manchester United and Man City have been linked with Rice over the summer after his fine breakthrough season in the Premier League last season.

As West Ham prepare to face United on Sunday - having already lost to City on the opening day - Pellegrini fielded questions over the England international's future.

But the Chilean manager insisted that Rice is not motivated by money as his performances continue to attract attention from bigger clubs.

"It is important that he continues with what he is doing so far," Pellegrini said.

"He always listens, improves when he makes mistakes. His value will depend what happens this season but his mind is not thinking about that."

City were interested in Rice as they looked for a new defensive midfielder over the summer, with club record signing Rodri eventually coming in from Atletico Madrid.

United have still not replaced Marouane Fellaini or Ander Herrera in midfield, and Paul Pogba continues to attract interest from Real Madrid.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is prioritising young British players as he rebuilds his United squad, and Rice would fit that profile after the arrivals of Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James.
