André Ayew and Manuel Pellegrini have won the respective Premier League player and manager of the month awards for August.
The Swansea City striker Ayew was named player of the opening month after making an impressive impact since arriving on a free transfer from Marseille in the summer. He has scored three goals and provided one assist in his first four Premier League appearances as Garry Monk’s side have made an impressive unbeaten start to their campaign, which has included a win over Manchester United and a draw at Chelsea.
“It’s a great feeling, but this award comes from hard work and support by the whole squad,” Ayew told his club’s website. “The guys have really helped me by telling me how the league works and by giving me confidence to do what I can do.”
Pellegrini, the Manchester City manager, earned his fourth Barclays Manager of the Month award after overseeing four consecutive wins in August, which have left them as the only team in the top four divisions with a 100% record.
“It means the team is doing things the way I want,” Pellegrini told City’s website. “I think we finished very well last season so it was important to start the way we did.
“The highlight was the way we played. It’s important to continue the style of football; the team won the four games in the way I like to play.”
