West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini is close to doubling his wages at West Ham as he and the club are close to agreeing a new and improved contract for the Argentina international.
According to Hammers news website Claret and Hugh and understood by football.london, the two parties are hopeful of concluding negotiations over a new contract during the next fortnight that will see Lanzini double his money in east London and be catapulted into the higher echelon of earners in east London.
Lanzini does have a two-year option in his current contract which is worth £35,000 a week but runs out at the end of the current campaign. The Hammers are wary that the player could have taken the club to court over the option, it's not understood why that could happen but the club is still wary in any case.
West Ham were ready to hand Lanzini a new five-year deal before he suffered his devastating knee ligament injury while at a World Cup training camp in Barcelona with his country ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The injury put a halt to those plans as the Hammers wanted to see how the 26-year-old would recover from the injury which kept him out of action for nine months.
Seemingly the Hammers top brass are happy and are ready to move forward with negotiations having been locked in a bit of a stalemate since the start of the summer when it emerged Lanzini wanted fresh terms to be discussed again.
The Argentine joined West Ham on an initial season-long loan from Al Jazira in Saudi Arabia in 2015 but just six months into the loan deal decided to trigger the £10.8m option they held on his permanent transfer.
Lanzini signed a four-year contract, with the two-year option, back in 2016.
