Manu Garcia leaves Man City to join Sporting Gijon

Manu Garcia has left Manchester City to join Spanish second division outfit Sporting Gijon.

The 21-year-old midfielder looked like a serious asset for the Blues after he joined them from Gijon as a 16-year-old, in 2014.

City paid around £200,000 for the teenager, and Manuel Pellegrini took him on their 2015 North American tour.

Garcia made his professional debut in September in a 4-1 League Cup win at Sunderland, and scored his only City goal in a 5-1 win over Crystal Palace in the same competition.

But after making his Premier League debut against Aston Villa in 2016, he was sent out on loan to Alaves, but hardly figured for the Spanish club.

Another loan, this time to Dutch club NAC Breda, was much more successful, as he made 53 appearances, scoring three goals and- along with fellow City loanee Angelino – was a star performer.

That set up a loan to Toulouse last season but this summer, with another year left on his contract, City decided to let him go, with no fee being released by either side as yet.
