Manu Bhaker wins bronze for India's first medal at Paris Olympics, ends 12-year wait for shooting

NEW DELHI: A resilient Manu Bhaker on Sunday ended India's 12-year medal drought in Olympic shooting by securing a bronze in the 10m air pistol event at the Paris Games on Sunday.

The 22-year-old became the first female shooter from India to achieve this feat.

India's last shooting medals at the Olympics came in 2012 in London, where Vijay Kumar won bronze in the rapid-fire pistol event and Gagan Narang clinched bronze in the 10m air rifle competition.

After two Olympic cycles without a shooting medal, Manu fought hard to earn the bronze with a score of 221.7

. The silver medal went to Korea's Kim Yeji, who scored a total of 241.3, while her compatriot Jin Ye Oh claimed the gold with a Games record of 243.2.
