Oct. 05--Get ready to give these six Chicago chefs and restaurateurs shoutouts: Tony Mantuano, Judy Contino, Jean Joho, Georges "Kiki" Cuisance, Steve Lombardo and Hugo Ralli. They are the 2015 Chefs Hall of Fame inductees. And beginning Thursday, Mayor Rahm Emanuel has proclaimed a day of the week for each.
So Chef Tony Mantuano Day in Chicago on Oct. 15 salutes Chef of the Year Mantuano, chef-partner at Spiaggia, River Roast, Terzo Piano and more. Joho (Everest; Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas and more) gets Oct. 14. Pastry chef Contino (founder of Bittersweet Pastry Shop) gets Oct. 13. Cuisance's (Kiki's Bistro) day is Oct. 12. And Gibson Restaurant Group partners Lombardo and Ralli each get a day, Oct. 9 and Oct. 8, respectively.
The six will be inducted into the Chicago Culinary Museum's Chefs Hall of Fame on Oct. 15 in the Crystal Gardens at Navy Pier. They will join others in the Chefs Hall of Fame, including Stephanie Izard, Michael Kornick, Jimmy Bannos, Rick Bayless, Carrie Nahabedian, Art Smith, Priscilla Satkoff and Paul Kahan, as well as the late chefs Charlie Trotter, Jean Banchet and Louis Szathmary.
The event celebrates the city's culinary stature and raises funds for a yet-to-be-built Chicago Culinary Museum. It will feature a walk-around dinner from several Chicago restaurants, including Graham Elliot Bistro, Everest, The Purple Pig, 437 Rish, Riva, Chicago Cut Steakhouse, La Scarola, MK, Kiki's Bistro, All Chocolate Kitchen, Revolution Brewing and Gibson's. 5 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 15; $80 per in advance; $125 at the door, available at thechicagoculinarymuseum.org.
