Manslaughter-accused faces Adelaide court over fatal fight

Rival groups of men fought ahead of the death, police believe.

A young man has appeared in court charged with manslaughter after a fatal weekend fight in Hindley Street in the Adelaide CBD, with his lawyer telling the hearing the death was not the result of a one-punch attack.

The 20-year-old man was allegedly involved in fighting between rival groups of men in the early hours of Sunday.

A 22-year-old man, from Glandore in the south-west suburbs, was treated by paramedics at the scene but could not be revived.

The accused man, from Kingswood, faced a brief hearing in Adelaide Magistrates Court where the prosecution gained a suppression of his identity due to the ongoing police investigation of the fight.

The man was remanded in custody and is due to face court again in a week, where an application for home detention bail is expected to be considered.
