Mansion put on sale but people are distracted by what's going on in the basement

An incredibly luxurious mansion has been listed for sale online - but it's not the spacious living areas or sprawling grounds which is attracting attention.

The home, in Maryland, US, is on the market for about £3.6m and it's easy to see why right from the outset, with huge gates and a long stretch of drive leading to a house which appears big enough to be a hotel.

And with seven bedrooms in the main house, and a guest cotttage and pool house each with a kitchen and bathroom, it's not far off one either.

A seemingly never-ending reel of photos shows a music room, bar, butler's pantry, library, heated pool and lighted tennis court, mixed in with snaps of spacious bedrooms and marble bathrooms.

However, the four acre property's most unique feature comes when you step down into the basement.

A wooden staircase befitting the home above leads down to a cobbled street lined with shops and amenities, with real cars parked up on the curbs.

The little town features a post office, powder room, massage parlour and cinema, showing screenings of Mary Poppins followed by The Exorcist.

Pictures show three classic cars ready to drive around the small streets and there's also bikes propped up and ready to use for visitors.

The listing was shared on Twitter by @Victoriaxxviii, with the caption: "My friend found a listing for an otherwise normal mcmansion that seemingly has a little.... fake... town (?) in the basement."

It racked up more than 275,000 likes as people were left both amazed and baffled by the installation.

One pointed out: "God I love how much effort is put into everything and then the ceiling is just like f*** u this is a basement, pipes. They didn’t even put a CEILING on."

A second said: "Mary Poppins AND The Exorcist?! What a double feature!"

Another replied: "This is pretty neat but s*** there's something about it that makes me really uncomfortable. That atmosphere of a badly lit museum where the ceilings are too low, no-one around at all. It's weirdly unnerving."

A fourth simply added: "What the F***."

If you want to make an offer, or just spend a bit more time looking through the incredible photos, you can find the listing here.
