NEW DELHI: BJP MP Manoj Tiwari on Tuesday wrote to lieutenant governor Anil Baijal seeking his intervention to immediately start functioning of a recently completed underground reservoir in Sonia Vihar area under his North East Delhi constituency.
The starting of this project can provide 24 hours drinking water to a large number of people in the area. Tiwari inspected the underground reservoir on July 29.
“The reservoir could have been started in March this year, but the AAP government did not do that due to political reasons,” Tiwari stated.
The reservoir has been constructed under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme at Rs 35.70 crore and has a capacity of 26.80 million liter.
“This reservoir can help solve water crisis in many areas under my North East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency like Karawal Nagar, Mustafabad, Shiv Vihar (Phase I to X), Panchal Vihar, Ambedkar Colony, Indra Vihar,” Tiwari stated in the letter.
This project is estimated to benefit around 6 lakh people. “The work of the project started on November 29, 2017 and was completed March 30, 2021 but the people are not yet able to take benefit of this project which is regrettable,” Tiwari stated in the letter, seeking the LG’s intervention to get the project started as soon as possible.
