Manny Perez exits Celtic as forgotten youngster finds new club and links up with ex-Rangers star

Forgotten youngster Manny Perez has left Celtic and signed for the Portland Timbers, before joining Austin FC on loan.

The American, who joined the Parkhead side alongside compatriot Andrew Gutman under Brendan Rodgers in 2019, has been surplus to requirements since arriving in Glasgow.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed loan spells back in his homeland with North Carolina FC for the past two seasons.

And his time Stateside has now become permanent as he penned a deal with MLS side Portland Timbers, before being immediately sent out on loan to Austin.

The Texas club, also in the MLS, have an option to buy him at the end of the season.

Perez was delighted to get the deal over the line.

He said: “I feel blessed and honored to be part of Austin FC. I look forward to giving my best on the pitch for our fans, my teammates and coaching staff.”

Austin FC sporting director and former Rangers star Claudio Reyna added: "Manny is a player with great potential who is motivated to make an impact, and we are pleased to welcome him to the Austin FC family.”
